Are UK Scientists Building Advanced Weaponry for China?

( – China is a real threat to the United States and its allies. It’s imperative that the Chinese military receives no help in its further development and strengthening, but England may be offering such aid without realizing it.

An investigation by the “Times of London” revealed British universities have received $325 million in funding from Chinese institutions, some of which are under sanctions by the United States and have strong ties to China’s military organization, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The number of collaborations has grown by three times in the past six years, reaching around 1,000 in total.

The joint efforts have included a range of projects covering military technology, drones, aerospace materials, high-performance batteries, electromagnetic technology and radar jamming equipment. The potential for these universities to be aiding China’s military is nothing new. In early 2021, Civitas, the Institute for the Study of Civil Society, pointed to PLA involvement with British institutions and research centers, noting it was under the radar and not receiving the scrutiny it should.

Parliament member Tom Tugendhat said the collaborations are an example of the institutions being hungry to receive such large funding while also being too naive to realize the ulterior motives of the Chinese. He said by continuing such partnerships, the country is “bargaining away our competitive advantage” and “handing over secrets” to allow the PLA to become a more powerful military than it already is.
