Apartment complex shooting leaves 3 dead

LAWRENCE, IN – A triple homicide is currently under investigation by the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) following a Friday night shooting incident at a local apartment complex. Responding to a report of shots fired, officers reached the Jamestowne Apartments on the 4400 block of Duxbury Road around 7:16 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals with fatal gunshot wounds. The victims, identified as 19-year-olds Aaliyah Wortman from Marion and Londyn Coleman from Warsaw, and 27-year-old Spencer Lawson Jr. from Indianapolis, were pronounced dead at the scene, confirmed LPD.

The victims were “young,” stated LPD Capt. Tracey Cantrell, adding that such recurring violent crimes are unacceptable and the city needs to find ways to diffuse conflicts without resorting to firearms.

Preliminary investigations by LPD detectives suggest the deadly incident may have been a targeted attack. Although there are currently no suspects in custody, LPD indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the community while officers continue to gather evidence at the crime scene.

Capt. Cantrell mentioned the department’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators but couldn’t provide a specific number of suspects being searched for.

Citizens with any relevant information regarding the shooting are encouraged to either directly contact LPD or anonymously report through Crime Stoppers.
