Alabama Couple Charged with Murder in Connection to 1-Year-Old Child’s Death

In a case that has spanned almost two years, an Alabama mother and her boyfriend have been charged with the murder of a 1-year-old boy, Emery Michael Knox Wilson.

Jordan Ellan Harmon and Travius Sebastian Coleman are currently in custody, with their bond set at $1.6 million.

The tragic incident unfolded on April 11, 2021, when first responders were called to a Lawrence County, Alabama highway. Upon arrival, they found the toddler receiving CPR. Emery was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away two days later.

An investigation into the young boy’s death revealed that he had allegedly been subjected to abuse by his mother and her boyfriend. Harmon, 28, and Coleman, 30, are accused of inurying, torturing, and abusing the toddler.

Court documents also allege that Harmon failed to seek necessary medical treatment for Emery after he had suffered serious injuries to his head, arm, and groin area. This medical neglect took place on at least three separate occasions.

Harmon was initially taken into custody the day after Emery’s death. She was later released on bail but was rearrested in January 2022, along with Coleman, after the autopsy results confirmed that Emery had died from blunt force trauma to the head. Lawrence County Sheriff Max Sanders described the extent of the child’s injuries, including abrasions and lacerations to the scalp.

In addition to the murder charges, Harmon and Coleman are also facing charges of aggravated child abuse. It remains unclear whether they have entered pleas in response to the charges. Information regarding their legal representation has not been made available. The couple is due back in court on April 13.
