A plane crash kills a pilot and leaves a child in critical condition

CHICAGO, IL – A tragic accident unfolded this afternoon when a small plane crashed in a field near Hinkley Airport in DeKalb County, claiming the life of the pilot. The single-engine aircraft, carrying a 51-year-old pilot and a three-year-old child, met its end during what should have been a routine flight from Maple Park.

Authorities reported that emergency responders swiftly arrived at the crash site. Despite their efforts, including administering CPR, the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. The young child, who survived the initial impact, was immediately transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

The child’s condition warranted further medical attention, prompting a transfer to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. The hospital has not yet released information regarding the child’s current condition.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are on site, working to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that the plane may have encountered mechanical issues shortly after takeoff, but officials have yet to confirm this.

Hinkley Airport, a small regional airport, is known for serving general aviation and private flights.

Witnesses in the vicinity described hearing an unusual noise from the aircraft before it descended into the field. This account aligns with the theory of mechanical failure, although the investigation is still in its early stages.

The pilot, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was reportedly experienced, with many years of flying under his belt. Friends and family members are grappling with the sudden loss, remembering him as a passionate aviator.

As the investigation continues, authorities have cordoned off the crash site to preserve evidence.
