A man dies trying to defend his dog

On Wednesday, a man from Houston tragically lost his life while attempting to rescue his small poodle from an attack by a neighbor’s dog.

According to Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson, officers were dispatched to a home on Sheraton Oaks Drive around 4 p.m. upon arrival, they discovered the 69-year-old victim being attacked by one of the dogs.

When the dog charged at the officers, one of them fired a shot which struck the canine, but it survived and fled the scene.

Neighbors reported that the man seemed to have some type of physical disability.

The breeds of the dogs have not been disclosed and both have been taken away by Animal Control. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will decide if the owner of the animals should face criminal charges.
