PHOENIX, AZ – A 3-year-old boy is safely back home after a harrowing kidnapping incident in West Phoenix. Police reported that the child was abducted from outside his residence, sparking panic among his family and neighbors.
The situation unfolded when the suspect, identified as Francisco Ruiz, allegedly stole a truck parked in a driveway with the child inside. The boy’s father, who was nearby, immediately reacted by chasing the vehicle and calling for help.
Neighbor Rhonda Kirkpatrick described the frantic scene, recounting how the father desperately shouted for the return of his son, prioritizing his child’s safety over the stolen vehicle. As the father pursued the truck, Kirkpatrick and several neighbors joined in the effort to stop the suspect.
According to Phoenix police, Ruiz claimed he was unaware of the child in the truck and intended to return him. However, upon his return, neighbors acted swiftly, pulling Ruiz from the driver’s seat and restraining him.
Kirkpatrick detailed the community’s quick response, explaining how some neighbors used their vehicles to block the road while another retrieved the child from the truck and returned him to his father.
The emotional reunion was marked by relief as the father clutched his son tightly. Kirkpatrick then escorted them to her home, offering water and comfort as they awaited the authorities.
Ruiz, 22, faces charges of kidnapping and car theft. The boy’s father, still shaken by the ordeal, declined an interview but expressed gratitude for his son’s safety.
The neighborhood’s collective effort highlighted the power of community action in critical moments, ensuring the child’s safe return before police arrived to arrest Ruiz.
