NEW YORK, NY – A Queens resident is reeling after burglars made off with $3.2 million in jewelry and cash from his home. The victim, who spoke off-camera due to safety concerns, recounted the audacious heist that unfolded on October 16. Surveillance footage captured two individuals, disguised as construction workers, walking down 168th Street in Jamaica Hills around 2:20 p.m.
Authorities report that a third accomplice, driving a blue Hyundai, facilitated the break-in through the back door. Neighbors expressed anxiety following the daylight burglary, with one witness recalling the sound of knocking on doors and windows.
The homeowner, still in shock, revealed that the thieves managed to haul away an entire safe, which was not anchored down. The stolen items included jewels, cash, and documents, holding significant personal value, particularly his daughter’s jewelry.
This incident marks the second time the businessman has been targeted. In December 2024, his jewelry store on 74th Street in Jackson Heights was attacked by three men wielding sledgehammers. The assailants, dressed in black, escaped with $800,000 in merchandise.
The NYPD previously linked these sledgehammer-wielding suspects to an attempted robbery at a Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, jewelry store. The recent crime has left the Queens community on edge, with residents noting how the burglars’ construction attire allowed them to blend in seamlessly.
Despite ongoing investigations, police have yet to make any arrests related to either the December incident or the recent home burglary. The connection between the two crimes remains unclear.
