A 22-year-old man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and her mother before killing himself at her Des Moines home, police say.
The man called police shortly before 3 a.m. Monday to report he had shot both women and was walking to a nearby park where he planned to kill himself.
According to investigators, the man forced his way into the home before shooting and killing a woman, 20, and her mother, 47. Their identities have not yet been released.
According to Sgt. Paul Parizek, officers discovered the man had a gunshot wound in a park about a block away. Paramedics took him to the hospital, and he was in critical condition Monday afternoon.
Most murder cases involve domestic disputes. In many cases there is a history of violence. It is unclear if the victims, in this case, had any personal protection orders against the killer.
This case is still being investigated.
