10-Year-Old Boy Shot While Sleeping in Atlanta Home

A young boy was shot while sleeping in his bed on Tuesday morning in the Mechanicsville neighborhood of southwest Atlanta, according to police reports.

Officers stated that the incident took place at approximately 4 a.m. at a home off Washington Street, where multiple gunshots were fired from outside the home, with one of the shots striking the 10-year-old boy in the hand.

Other individuals, including children ages five and older, were also inside the home and asleep at the time of the shooting.

Residents reported hearing around five seconds of gunfire, followed by silence.
The Atlanta Police Department has reported 24 aggravated assaults in Zone 3, where the shooting took place, this month alone. City-wide, there have been 153 aggravated assaults.

Area residents expressed concern over the increasing incidence of gun violence in the neighborhood.

At present, there are few details available about the shooting, and no information has been released about any potential suspects. Police have indicated that the boy was transported to the hospital for treatment.
