Multiple Fatal Crashes Occur In Florida Within The Last 2 Days

The Florida Highway Patrol has been busy with multiple vehicle crashes within their jurisdiction this new year.

On Friday night, two separate motorcycle versus car crashes occurred in Florida, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

In the first crash, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV on West Norvell Bryant Highway in Hernando. In the second crash, a 51-year-old man from Kissimmee was killed by a drunk driver in Sumter County.

The following day, a 51-year-old man from Lehigh Acres died in a crash involving two SUVs on Lee Boulevard. The cause of this crash is unknown.

Accidents on Friday night involving motorcycles

On Friday night, a motorcycle crash on West Norvell Bryant Highway in Hernando resulted in the death of a 50-year-old motorcyclist from Hernando.

The crash occurred at the intersection of CR-486 and North Fatima Avenue, near Hernando Elementary School, at around 7:00 p.m. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV was attempting to turn left onto the highway from a stop sign. It was when the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, struck the rear end of the vehicle and overturned. A 75-year-old woman from Beverly Hills was driving the SUV.

The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries. The crash did not result in any injuries for the driver of the SUV or her 80-year-old passenger. The police haven’t announced the identities of the people involved.

That same night, another motorcycle versus four-wheeled vehicle happened, still within the jurisdiction of the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 51-year-old man from Kissimmee was killed by a drunk driver in Sumter County on Friday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 7:25 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 171.

It was reported that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on SR-44 and attempting to change lanes when it struck a Suzuki motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

The motorcycle overturned, ejecting the rider. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries. The identity of the victim has not been announced by the police.

The driver of the SUV, 59-year-old Lloyd Douglas Walters, was arrested after attempting to leave the scene of a crash. Walters was taken to the Sumter County Jail.

He will face a charge of manslaughter and apparent DUI. In addition, he will also be charged for not having a valid driver’s license.

Another accident the morning after

Later the next morning, a 51-year-old man from Lehigh Acres died on Saturday morning in a crash involving two SUVs.

According to an incident report published by the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 7:50 a.m. on Lee Boulevard, near Joan Avenue North. One SUV was traveling in the outside lane while the other was in the center lane, both going east on Lee Boulevard.

The first SUV failed to yield while changing lanes, resulting in the front of the second SUV striking its left rear side. The first SUV rotated, crossed the median, and came to rest on the westbound lanes, while the second SUV rotated and came to rest on the sidewalk on the grass shoulder.

The passenger in the first SUV, who was seriously injured in the crash, was transported to the hospital but later died. Both drivers suffered minor injuries.

The incident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. No identities of the people involved in the incident have been released to the public
