CHICAGO, IL – A fatal shooting late Friday night on the city’s West Side left one woman dead and two others injured, highlighting the ongoing challenges with violence in the area. Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 9:41 p.m. on North Kedzie Avenue.
The victims were discovered both on the sidewalk and inside a nearby residence, leaving uncertainty about the exact location of the shooting. Chicago police are working to piece together the details of the incident.
The deceased woman, whose age has not been disclosed, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds after being rushed to Stroger Hospital. In the same hospital, a 25-year-old woman is recovering from a gunshot wound to her right shoulder and is reported to be in fair condition. Additionally, a 23-year-old woman was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital who was suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. She is also listed in fair condition.
Investigators were seen at the Luxury Banquet Hall on the corner, examining bullet holes in the business’s door and placing evidence markers around the intersection to map out the scene.
Community leader, Street Pastor Donavan Price, spoke on the volatile nature of the night, describing it as a grim reminder of the current state of affairs. He reflected on the tragic turn of events for the women who were likely beginning their weekend with hopes for enjoying the mild weather.
As of Saturday, authorities have yet to make any arrests related to the shooting. The investigation, led by Area 4 detectives, is ongoing as they seek to uncover the motives and individuals responsible for the violence.
