Woman dies on airplane after getting sick mid-flight and going to the bathroom

A woman on a Jet2 flight headed to Manchester tragically passed away after experiencing a medical emergency mid-flight. This caused the plane to make an emergency landing.

The unidentified woman, reported to be in her 60s and from Cheshire, fell ill about three hours into the flight on Sunday.

A passenger on the flight described the situation, saying that the woman appeared to be in significant distress and was escorted to the bathroom by a man traveling with her. The cabin crew soon became involved, and at one point, the woman had to be laid down in front of the doors with extra leg room. The crew attempted to assess her pain level to relay the information back to the captain.

As the woman’s condition worsened, an announcement was made requesting any medical staff on board to come forward. The plane then made a dramatic turn, and it became apparent that an emergency landing was necessary. The distressing situation reportedly left several passengers visibly upset and emotional.

The flight diverted to Newquay, where an air ambulance and a second ambulance were waiting. The woman was quickly transported out of the plane on a scoop stretcher. A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed the woman’s death and stated that her next of kin have been informed.

There is no indication that this death is suspicious.

In a statement, Jet2 expressed condolences to the woman’s loved ones and thanked the crew who responded to the emergency.

After refueling, the plane continued its journey to Manchester, arriving at around 10 p.m.
