CHICAGO, IL – The city of Chicago experienced two separate mass shootings on Sunday morning in the South Side neighborhoods of Chinatown and Washington Park. The two incidents, mere hours apart, resulted in one death and eight injuries.
The first shooting, occurring about 3 a.m., claimed the life of a 39-year-old man and left three others wounded outside Lawrence’s Fish & Shrimp in Chinatown. Police found over 36 pieces of evidence at the scene, pointing to a bloody encounter.
According to the authorities, a group of men were embroiled in an altercation that quickly escalated into a fight with another unidentified group. This argument escalated into gunshots, resulting in the fatal injury of the 39-year-old who died at the scene.
Among the survivors, a 34-year-old man is currently in fair condition at Stroger Hospital, nursing gunshot wounds to his leg. Two other men, aged 21 and 27, reached the hospital independently. The younger shooting victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left calf and is in good condition, while the 27-year-old received multiple gunshot wounds, leaving him in critical condition. Police believe the shooting was gang-related.
A few hours later, around 5 a.m., another five men independently headed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, nursing gunshot wounds from an incident in Washington Park. Numerous injuries were reported, including a 25-year-old man with wounds on the lower part of his body, a 24-year-old with gunshot wounds on his back, and a 32-year-old man with slight wounds to his right arm. Two 26-year-old men also reported gunshot injuries, one in his chin and another in his thumb.
Despite the severity of the shootings, the police say the five men have not been forthcoming with details about the incident.
