Two killed when car plunged from overpass

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A tragic crash on Friday night in Port Richmond has left two people dead and two others seriously injured, following a dramatic incident on I-95. The vehicle, reportedly traveling at a high speed, lost control and plummeted from the highway onto Castor Avenue below.

Emergency responders, including state police and the fire department, were quick to arrive at the scene. The crash site was marked by the vehicle lying on its side, surrounded by debris, beneath the towering I-95 bridge. The car had fallen an estimated 20 to 30 feet, creating a chaotic scene that drew significant attention.

According to initial reports from Philadelphia police, four adult males were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Tragically, one of the passengers was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital.

The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. when the driver of a Mazda lost control while heading northbound on I-95. Aerial views captured by a news helicopter showed a break in the guardrail where the vehicle had veered off the highway before crashing onto the street below.

Authorities have yet to release the identities of those involved, but they did confirm one of the deceased was a 22-year-old male. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, though there are unconfirmed reports suggesting street racing might have played a role.

There was mention of a second vehicle traveling at a high speed alongside the Mazda, but no information has been released about this car or its occupants. This aspect of the case remains a focal point of the ongoing state police investigation.
