Police said three people in a silver Nissan opened fire as a man and woman left the business Monday evening.
CHICAGO, IL — A 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were fatally shot Monday evening while leaving a gas station on Chicago’s South Side, police said.
The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 200 block of West Pershing Road. Chicago police said three people in a silver Nissan sedan approached the two victims as they were leaving the business, opened fire and then fled eastbound. No arrests had been announced as investigators continued searching for those responsible.
Both victims were struck multiple times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, according to police. The man later died at the hospital, and the woman was also pronounced dead. Police said no other injuries were reported in the shooting.
The victims’ names had not been publicly released in the initial police accounts and local reports. Authorities also had not released additional identifying information about the three people suspected in the shooting.
Police described the vehicle involved as a silver Nissan sedan. Investigators said the three suspects approached the victims before the gunfire and then left the area in the car. Authorities had not announced a possible motive or said what, if any, connection existed between the victims and the shooters.
Local reports differed on whether to describe the area as Fuller Park or Armour Square, but they placed the shooting at the same location in the 200 block of West Pershing Road. Several reports identified the business as a Mobil gas station. The shooting occurred near Pershing Road on the city’s South Side.
Area One detectives are investigating the double homicide. Police had not announced arrests, charges or a motive, and no further information about the suspects had been released as of the latest available reports.
