Two killed, child hurt by shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A violent episode in Southeast Washington, D.C., has resulted in the deaths of two men and the injury of a 2-year-old girl, as authorities search for a blue Dodge Charger linked to the crime.

The incident unfolded at 11:22 a.m. near 22nd and Savannah streets, not far from Suitland Parkway. D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith reported that several suspects armed with rifles exited a vehicle and opened fire, hitting three men and fatally wounding two of them.

Amidst the gunfire, a group including the toddler was leaving a daycare center for a morning walk. The girl was hit by a stray bullet but was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no other children were injured.

“This is another example of gun violence that we cannot have in our communities. We are sick and tired of this,” Smith remarked, highlighting the department’s dedication to reducing such violence and offering condolences to the affected families.

Initially, the police were on the lookout for three suspects in black clothing who fled the scene in a white Chevy sedan. The vehicle has since been found abandoned, but the suspects remain at large.

The investigation continues as police collect evidence and appeal to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for this tragic event.
