ROGERS, AR – An Arkansas State Police trooper shot and injured a man during a traffic stop on I-49 after he allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted her, authorities said.
The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. when the trooper pulled over Angel Zapata Alvarado for speeding in heavy traffic. According to state police, Alvarado refused to exit his vehicle when instructed, prompting the trooper to use a taser.
A physical altercation ensued, during which the trooper drew her service weapon and shot Alvarado in the right temple. Alvarado was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being released into police custody.
Following his release from the hospital, Alvarado was taken to the Benton County Jail, where he is being held pending further investigation by Homeland Security. Additional charges against him are expected.
The trooper involved in the incident has not been named, and it is unclear if she has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. State police are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
This incident marks the latest in a series of confrontations between law enforcement and civilians that have raised questions about the use of force and police procedures.
