Toddler hit by two cars in double hit-and-run

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A two-year-old boy is on the road to recovery after surviving a harrowing incident in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia. The toddler was struck by two vehicles on Susquehanna Avenue, yet both drivers fled the scene, prompting an ongoing police search.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when officers from the 22nd District responded to reports of a child being hit. Upon arrival, they found the young boy with cuts and scrapes on his face and head. Fortunately, he was conscious and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent a series of tests, including a CT scan. He is currently in stable condition.

According to initial reports, the child’s family was preparing to leave when the boy unexpectedly wandered into the street, clutching a cell phone. It was then that he was struck by two southbound vehicles on Susquehanna Avenue. Despite the severity of the situation, neither driver stopped to render aid.

Witnesses at the scene provided statements to the police, and surveillance footage is being reviewed to identify the drivers involved. Chief Inspector Scott Small suggested several reasons why drivers might flee, such as having a suspended license, being under the influence, or having outstanding warrants. However, he emphasized the importance of those responsible turning themselves in.

“There’s always a chance that panic sets in, leading people to make poor decisions,” Small said. “The right course of action is to call 911 or go to the nearest police station and explain what happened.”

The police hope the drivers will come forward, stressing that failing to do so could lead to more severe charges. The community remains on edge, but there is relief that the child survived what could have been a much more tragic event.

Despite the ordeal, the boy is being called incredibly lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries.
