Three Shot at Halloween House Party, Police Say

Police said two victims were initially critically injured after gunfire erupted as officers responded to a loud-party complaint.

TEMPE, AZ — Three people were shot early Saturday at a house party in Tempe after police were called to investigate reports of a loud gathering, authorities said. Two victims were initially listed in critical condition and a third suffered minor injuries.

The shooting happened at about 4:30 a.m. Oct. 24 in the area of East Pebble Beach Drive near McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue. Tempe police said officers were already responding to the party when the shooting occurred. No arrests had been announced as investigators searched for the person responsible.

Police did not immediately release the names or ages of the three people who were wounded. ABC15 reported Sunday that all three victims were in stable condition, an improvement from the initial report that two were critically injured. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspected shooter.

A woman who said she was inside the party told Arizona’s Family that trouble began as an argument involving a couple became increasingly heated. She said the homeowner eventually asked a man to leave and that gunfire followed. Police have not publicly confirmed that account or announced what investigators believe caused the shooting.

The witness, Laay Chase, said she took cover behind a kitchen counter after hearing several shots. She said people inside the home tried to help those who had been wounded while they waited for officers and emergency crews to arrive. Neighbors also described seeing people leave the home quickly after the gunfire.

Police tape remained around the property later Saturday as investigators processed the scene. Authorities have not released information about a firearm, possible evidence recovered at the house or whether investigators have identified a person of interest.

Early reports differed slightly in describing the location, with some placing the shooting near Rural Road and Southern Avenue and others identifying East Pebble Beach Drive near McClintock Drive. Multiple reports citing Tempe police placed the incident on East Pebble Beach Drive in the area south of Southern Avenue.

No motive has been established publicly, and police have not announced any arrests or charges. The investigation remained active as authorities worked to identify and locate the shooter and determine what led to the gunfire.
