Authorities said that a fight inside a Chicago bar led to a shooting outside the bar that resulted in the deaths of three people and critical injuries to a fourth.
The shooting occurred about 2:30 a.m. CT on Chicago’s northwest side after a fight inside the bar spilled onto the street.
At a Portage Park bar over the weekend, Mariah Vera rushed to her father’s side when a gunman opened fire.
According to a law enforcement source, the gunman walked up and shot her in the head as she wept and treated his wounds.
Ricky Vera, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene outside his brother’s bar, Vera Lounge, in the 5500 block of West School Street early Sunday morning. Vera, 25, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Another two of Mariah Vera’s friends also died: Mercedes Imari, a 24-year-old mother of twins; and Mario Pozuelos, 26, another friend.
Police say a suspect was taken into custody the next day, but no charges were filed. Witnesses said the gunman fled in a dark-colored SUV.
Brennan provided few details Sunday of the shooting, saying the investigation remained active as detectives canvassed the area for surveillance footage and eyewitnesses.
Formal charges in the shooting have yet to be filed.
