EASTPOINTE, MI – In a case that has left the Eastpointe community reeling, a 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend have been charged with attempting to murder the girl’s mother after she confiscated her daughter’s cell phone.
The incident, which took place in July, began when police responded to a call on Roxana Street regarding a home invasion and potential attempted murder. As officers delved deeper, they discovered a sinister plot orchestrated by the young girl and her boyfriend, whom she had met online.
The mother, concerned about her daughter’s behavior and rule-breaking, had taken away her cell phone, unknowingly igniting a deadly response. The teenagers allegedly decided to murder the mother as a solution to their problem. On the morning of July 14, the girl left the door open for her boyfriend, who then entered the home and tried to suffocate the mother with a pillow.
The mother’s cries for help brought the girl’s grandmother to the rescue, forcing the boyfriend to flee. He left behind a pair of shoes and a knife from the house, which were later found by police. The mother was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries but is expected to survive.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities apprehended both teens. The 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old boyfriend face multiple charges, including first-degree murder conspiracy and solicitation of murder. They are being held on substantial bonds, $2.5 million for the boyfriend and $1 million for the girl, and are being tried as adults.
The identities of the minors remain undisclosed due to their ages. The case has shocked local law enforcement, highlighting the serious consequences of actions taken on social media. The mother continues to recover from the physical trauma, with significant damage to her blood vessels.
This case underscores the importance of monitoring online interactions and the potential ramifications of juvenile delinquency in the digital era.
