FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— A 17-year-old was hospitalized after an early-morning shooting in an unincorporated central Broward County neighborhood near Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, to a report of gunfire in the 2800 block of Northwest Sixth Court. Deputies later found the wounded teenager near Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest 29th Terrace.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics took the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said the teenager’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigators did not immediately release the victim’s name or gender. Officials also did not provide details about what may have led to the shooting or explain how the teenager traveled from the location where the gunfire was reported to the place where deputies found the victim.
No information about a possible shooter or suspect was released. Authorities also did not say whether any weapon or other evidence was recovered from the area.
The shooting occurred in central Broward County, just outside Fort Lauderdale’s municipal boundaries. Deputies examined the area as they worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office investigation remained active. No arrests had been announced, and additional information about the teenager’s recovery was not immediately available.
