Police said the 17-year-old girl was shot at least five times, while a 19-year-old man was struck in the face.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — A 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were recovering Tuesday after they were shot shortly before midnight in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Brooklyn, according to police.
The shooting happened late Monday outside the restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York. Police said gunfire was directed toward three teenagers who were standing near a white Honda Pilot close to the drive-thru. No arrests had been announced, and investigators had not identified a suspect or released a possible motive.
The girl was shot at least five times in her body, police said. The 19-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his face. An 18-year-old man who was with them ran from the gunfire before falling and suffering a minor cut to his face, according to authorities.
Emergency medical workers took all three to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Police said the two shooting victims were expected to survive. The name of the girl was not released because she is a minor, and authorities did not publicly identify either of the men.
Investigators focused part of their attention on the white Honda Pilot found at the scene. Video from the area showed what appeared to be blood near the vehicle’s rear bumper and a bullet hole in its windshield. Police had not said whether the vehicle belonged to one of the victims or how it was connected to the shooting.
Officers remained at the parking lot early Tuesday as they collected evidence and examined the area around the restaurant. Authorities had not disclosed how many shots were fired, whether a weapon was recovered or whether surveillance cameras recorded the person responsible.
Thomas Haynes, a community anti-violence activist who spoke with WABC, said shootings near businesses and other public places have left residents worried about moving safely through their neighborhoods. He described the violence as a continuing problem for communities working to protect young people.
The investigation remained active Wednesday. Police were searching for the shooter and had not announced any charges. Authorities had also not said whether the three teenagers were specifically targeted or were caught in gunfire aimed at someone else.
