PLANO, TX — A person was found fatally shot in an alley behind a Plano home Tuesday evening, prompting a homicide investigation that continued Wednesday with no arrest or suspect publicly announced, according to police and local news reports.
Plano police officers and Plano Fire-Rescue personnel were dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. Oct. 13 to a reported shooting in the 900 block of Middle Cove Drive. When first responders arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound in the alley behind a home. Plano Fire-Rescue pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Authorities had not released the victim’s identity as of Wednesday, saying notification of next of kin was still underway. Although initial descriptions of the case circulating publicly referred to the victim as a teenager, the Plano Police Department and multiple local news organizations had not publicly confirmed the victim’s age. Police have identified the deceased only as a person or victim.
The Plano Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is investigating the death. Authorities had not released information about a possible suspect or a motive, and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday morning.
The investigation brought an extended police presence to the neighborhood around Middle Cove Drive and Branch Hollow. Streets near the scene were closed while officers and detectives processed the area. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that the roads were reopened shortly after midnight Wednesday.
Police have released few details about what happened before officers were called. Officials have not said whether the shooting occurred in the alley, whether the victim had any connection to the nearby home or whether investigators believe anyone else was involved. No description of a suspected shooter has been made public.
The department initially described the case as a murder investigation in a public notice about the shooting. Police said the victim was discovered with a gunshot wound after officers and fire-rescue personnel arrived at the Middle Cove Drive location.
The investigation remains active. Detectives continue to seek information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, while the victim’s identity, age, a possible motive and information about any suspect remain unreleased.
