CINCINNATI, OH – A courtroom in Cincinnati witnessed the first appearance of Emily Nutley, a former Saints High School staff member, accused of sexual battery related to a student. The 42-year-old is at the center of allegations involving a 17-year-old, leading to multiple charges.
Nutley, who has denied the allegations by pleading not guilty, faced six counts of sexual battery. Prosecutors allege three separate incidents, each comprising two counts, with a student she supervised in an academic improvement program.
The prosecution claims the inappropriate relationship began with exchanges of explicit messages and photos outside school hours, eventually progressing to physical encounters on and off school property.
In the courtroom, Judge Jennifer Branch deliberated on setting a bond, a move Nutley’s defense attorney, Joe Curry, opposed. Curry argued that Nutley is not a flight risk, citing her strong community ties and family responsibilities. Nutley, a lifelong resident, is married with three children and has no prior criminal record.
Despite these arguments, Judge Branch imposed a $30,000 bond, permitting Nutley to post 10% to secure her release. She was instructed to refrain from contacting the school or the alleged victim and was restricted to remaining within Warren and Hamilton counties.
Following the accusations, Nutley was dismissed from her job at the school, a position she had held until the incident. Her attorney stressed her deep ties to the community and the severe impact of the charges on her personal and professional life.
Nutley’s trial is set for April 7, where the court will further examine the charges against her. As the legal proceedings continue, Nutley maintains her innocence, challenging the allegations brought against her.
