Former Wisconsin judge killed in ‘targeted’ attack; suspect had hit list that included Mitch McConnell, Gov. Whitmer – NBC News
A former Juneau County, Wisconsin, Circuit Court judge was found dead in his home on Friday. The suspect, Douglas K. Uhde, 56, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Deputies were called to the home around 6:30 a.m. for reports of an armed person and two shots fired. They found a man tied up with zip ties and a firearm in the home. They also found the suspected gunman with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital.
Law enforcement officials said a hit list was found in the process of taking Uhde to the hospital. Which included targets like Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) , Governor Gretchen Witmer (D-MI), and Governor Tony Evers (D-WI)
The U.S. Capitol Police were notified about the threat against McConnell U.S. senators’ offices said they could not comment further on the investigation.
Judge Roemer had sentenced Uhde to a 6-year prison sentence on a burglary charge.
Roemer was first elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2010 and 2016, and served as an assistant district attorney.
Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler remembered Judge Roemer as a “true Christian gentleman” and said they were “shocked and saddened” by his death.
