Stolen trailer confrontation ends in deadly shootout

BONNEY LAKE, WA – A chaotic Sunday morning in Pierce County left two people dead and another injured following a dramatic chase and shootout involving stolen property. The incident unfolded before dawn, sending shockwaves through the community.

Residents in the usually quiet neighborhood were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire around 6:51 a.m. Adam Hosey, who lives nearby, recounted the moments of terror. “I heard multiple gunshots and immediately knew it wasn’t fireworks,” he said. Intrigued and concerned, Hosey ventured out to see what had transpired. What he discovered was far from ordinary: emergency responders performing CPR on a victim.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department revealed that the chaos began when individuals in a white pickup truck stole a trailer in Prairie Ridge. The owner of the trailer, driving a gold pickup truck, pursued the thieves. The chase turned violent as both parties exchanged gunfire, leading to a crash.

When authorities arrived at the scene, they found one man dead on the ground near the white truck and another man critically injured in the truck’s bed. The injured man was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, two other individuals fled the scene. Law enforcement managed to apprehend a man on 193rd Avenue East and a woman near Victor Falls Elementary School. However, the driver of the white truck remains at large and may have sustained a gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s department has yet to release a description of the missing driver. Hosey reflected on the incident, emphasizing the lessons to be learned. “It’s not worth risking your life, and it’s wrong to take something that doesn’t belong to you,” he said.

As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the violent events that shattered their Sunday morning tranquility.
