WYNDMOOR, PA – A fatal crash that claimed the life of a teenage passenger and led to three others being rushed to the hospital occurred early Monday morning in Springfield Township, Montgomery County. The vehicles involved in the crash included one previously reported as stolen.
Shortly before 5 a.m., police received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Stenton Avenue and East Evergreen Avenue in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township. When police came to the crash site, they discovered a 15-year-old who had been thrown from one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the site.
Two additional passengers from the same vehicle were trapped inside and had to be removed by emergency crews. Both individuals were transported to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital. A passenger in the other vehicle that was involved in the crash was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a white 2014 Infiniti QX80 was proceeding northbound on Stenton Avenue with a green traffic light. Unexpectedly, a red 2020 Hyundai Elantra, heading eastbound on E. Evergreen Avenue, ran the red light and caused the crash.
Police found that the red Hyundai Elantra had been reported as stolen by the Philadelphia Police Department on July 27. The Springfield Township Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash.
