PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – A dramatic car chase ended early this morning when a suspect’s vehicle plunged into a lake in Waller County. Authorities are actively searching for the driver, who is believed to have escaped the submerged car.
The pursuit began when a stolen vehicle failed to stop at Barker Cypress and Highway 290. Deputies chased the car approximately 15 miles into Waller County. The chase concluded when the suspect’s vehicle veered off the road after deputies deployed spike strips, sending it into the lake north of Highway 290 and east of James Muse Parkway.
Dive teams are currently at the scene, scouring the lake for the submerged car and any potential passengers. Law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Public Safety and deputies from Harris and Waller Counties, are positioned around the site.
Assistant Chief John Nanny stated it remains unclear whether the driver intentionally drove into the lake. While the suspect’s whereabouts are unknown, authorities are combing the surrounding wooded areas.
Live footage from the scene shows a wrecker and several law enforcement vehicles stationed near the water’s edge. Sky 2 aerial views reveal divers methodically searching the lake.
The James Muse exit at Highway 290 is closed as the search continues. Officials have not yet identified the suspect, and the situation remains fluid.
