Stabbing attack at rehab center leaves 2 injured

SOMERTON, PA – Two individuals were left in critical condition in Philadelphia’s Somerton neighborhood following a violent incident. A double stabbing took place at a rehabilitation center over the weekend, leaving the two victims injured. The suspect has since been taken into police custody.

The incident, which transpired on the 600 block of Edison Avenue, escalated quickly from a verbal altercation, according to Damon Butts Sr., whose wife and son were the victims of the attack.

Both of the victims of the stabbing are employees at the rehabilitation center where the assault took place. They have been identified as Shanelle May, 47, and Damon Butts Jr., 20.

The victims are now recuperating at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital following the traumatic attack, which involved severe chest and arm wounds. Thankfully, doctors have confirmed their injuries are not life-threatening. However, the psychological and physical healing process is expected to be long.

While the suspect is currently in custody, no weapon has been found in connection to the incident. Police are still investigating the stabbing and the reasons leading up to it. Local authorities have urged anyone with information to aid the investigation in coming forward.
