A fatal incident occurred in Poplar Bluff, a small town in southeast Missouri, when a man was shot by a police officer. The event took place on Monday evening, around 8:30 p.m., in this town of approximately 16,000 residents.The identity of the deceased man has yet to be disclosed.
The incident began when an officer was dispatched to conduct a wellness check. Upon arrival, the officer discovered a man lying underneath a vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the man had an outstanding warrant for assault.
As the situation unfolded, a second officer arrived on the scene. The man then entered the vehicle and locked himself inside. According to police reports, he subsequently put the vehicle in reverse at a high speed, nearly hitting an officer.
In response to the perceived threat, one of the officers fired at the man. He was declared dead at the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation into the incident.
