Shooting erupts during high school graduation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – An unsettling incident disrupted what was supposed to be peaceful graduation ceremony at the Show-Me Center on Sunday. The incident provoked a response from Cape Central High School. The school sent emails to families and staff, initially framing the reality of the incident, followed by updates on the condition of its attendees.

In the midst of this disturbing event, there was a silver lining- no students or faculty members were hurt during the incident. The school commended the staffers at the Show-Me Center for their hand in the successful evacuation of everyone present at the venue.

The responsive actions of the law officers were highlighted by the school- the quick response and resourcefulness of the school resource officers already present at the center and policemen from Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The school is unwavering in its resolve to provide its graduates with a deserving celebration. They announced that another graduation ceremony will be scheduled for the students soon. But at the present, the school’s focus remains on aiding the officers who are currently investigating the incident.

As a result of the violent episode, the school has decided to forego all classes and extra-curricular activities on Monday.
