MILWAUKEE, WI – A confrontation at a retail store in Milwaukee escalated into a shooting incident on Sunday, resulting in serious charges against a 28-year-old man. The altercation occurred at Forman Mills, located near 54th and Capitol, where a man reportedly attempted to sell electronics around 6 p.m.
According to court documents, a security guard monitoring surveillance footage identified the suspect, Deonte Taylor, and another individual who had been involved in previous incidents of selling goods at the back of the store. Tensions flared when Taylor’s friend engaged in a heated argument with the armed security guard.
Witnesses say Taylor intervened, attempting to defuse the situation by urging everyone to calm down, stating that he and his companion were about to leave. However, events took a violent turn when Taylor allegedly brandished a firearm, aiming it at one individual’s head and threatening to kill him.
In a desperate bid to protect himself, the victim reportedly pushed the gun away, but Taylor responded by stepping back and firing, striking the man twice. The violence did not end there; Taylor is accused of pointing the gun at another man’s head as he exited the premises. The second victim sought refuge and assistance at a nearby Pick ‘n Save supermarket.
Surveillance footage later captured Taylor pacing the store floor, seemingly collecting spent shell casings. Prosecutors allege that Taylor then tampered with the security equipment, causing the video feed to skip several minutes before police arrived at the scene.
During a police interview, Taylor claimed self-defense, alleging that one of the men had pointed a gun at him. Despite his assertions, Taylor now faces multiple charges, including assault with a firearm and obstruction of justice.
Attempts to reach Forman Mills for comment have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Taylor remains in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, awaiting his initial court appearance. The community is left grappling with the implications of this violent encounter, as questions about safety and security in public spaces arise.
