School resource officers stop vehicle near high shool with multiple illegal guns

FORT WORTH, TX – A vigilant school resource officer and staff members at Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School in Fort Worth are being credited with averting a potentially deadly situation. On Wednesday afternoon, authorities intercepted a vehicle occupied by young individuals not enrolled at the school, discovering stolen firearms in their possession.

The incident unfolded during school hours when the resource officer and staff were actively patrolling the campus. Their attention was drawn to a group that had been spotted trespassing the day before. Upon identifying the suspicious vehicle, they promptly stopped it and engaged with the occupants, leading to a significant discovery.

Inside the vehicle, the officers found four individuals, one of whom was 20-year-old Ryder Martinez. As he was removed from the car, a handgun was found beneath him. Martinez now faces felony charges for unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited area.

The situation escalated when one of the car’s juvenile occupants attempted to flee but was later apprehended. The remaining two juveniles were detained, and another stolen Glock handgun with an extended magazine was recovered, concealed in one of the juvenile’s clothing.

In response to the unfolding events, Fort Worth ISD briefly placed the high school on lockdown. A letter was sent to parents to inform them of the police activity, although it omitted specific details about the firearms.

The police department is still investigating the motives of the group and their connection to the school. Although the 20-year-old Martinez is a former student, his presence on campus remains unauthorized. The juveniles involved have been taken to a detention center as the investigation continues.

The swift actions of the school resource officer and staff members have been praised for preventing what could have been a dangerous situation. Fort Worth Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure the safety and security of the school community.
