Pregnant teen who was murdered found in wooded area

LOGANVILLE, GA – In a tragic turn of events, the body of 16-year-old Mia Campos, who was seven months pregnant, was found in a wooded area in Loganville, Georgia, early Monday morning. Local authorities have apprehended her ex-boyfriend for allegedly misleading the police.

The grim discovery was made around 1 a.m. near the 3600 block of Stephens Road, about 25 miles east of Atlanta. The Gwinnett Police Department (GCPD) reported that Campos’ family used a cellphone app to locate her after she failed to return home the previous night. They found her face down in the woods and immediately called 911.

The medical examiner has determined that Campos’ death was a homicide, though the details surrounding her demise remain murky. Campos had already chosen a name, Sebastian, for her unborn son.

On Wednesday, GCPD arrested 20-year-old Jesus Monroy, Campos’ ex-boyfriend, on charges of providing false statements to law enforcement. Sgt. Collin Flynn explained, “During the interview, it was determined he provided false statements, leading to his arrest.” Despite the arrest, Monroy has not been identified as a suspect in the homicide, and the investigation is ongoing.

In a poignant twist, Monroy and his parents had been with Campos’ family in the days before his arrest, participating in nightly prayers. Edward Campos, Mia’s father, expressed his disbelief upon hearing the news. “We keep praying every night, and that’s why he came with his parents. I was shocked when I got the notice,” he said.

A makeshift memorial now stands at the site where Mia was found, erected by her grieving family and friends. The family is desperate for answers and recalls the heart-wrenching moment they found her. “Face down. It was hard. I knew something was wrong,” Edward Campos said. “Her lips and her nose. They murdered my baby.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact GCPD detectives or Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips could result in a cash reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
