Police say man gunned down in front of his family was a hitman wanted by Interpol for a decade

SÃO PAULO, BR – A man who was brutally murdered in front of his family last week in Brazil has been identified as a Serbian hitman, who was on Interpol’s most-wanted list for multiple contract killings. The man had been living under a false Slovenian identity, according to Luiz Ricardo Lara Dias Jr., the lead investigator on the case.

The victim, Darko Geisler, 43, was identified by local police after consulting with the Slovenian consulate in São Paulo. They discovered that the passport found on Geisler was not his, but belonged to a Slovenian citizen who reported it lost in 2017.

Further investigation revealed that Geisler was a contract killer wanted in Montenegro for several homicides and possession of weapons and explosives. Montenegrin authorities confirmed Geisler’s criminal past.

It is believed that Geisler had been living in Brazil for nearly a decade, concealing his identity after fleeing Montenegro for Bosnia following a contract killing in 2014. His whereabouts were unknown until his recent demise.

Geisler had settled in Brazil and married in 2015 or 2016, moving to Santos. His wife claimed to be unaware of his criminal past. Despite speaking little Portuguese, Geisler was known to be a family man, often seen taking his son to school and socializing with other parents.

Geisler met a violent end when an unidentified, masked gunman shot him at close range as he returned home from a bike ride with his wife and young son. The assailant fled the scene in a black car, leaving no traces.

Brazilian police are continuing their search for Geisler’s killer. Both Brazilian and Montenegrin authorities are collaborating to unravel the mystery surrounding his death, suspecting that his criminal past may have been a factor.
