Police looking for suspects after family finds three of their dogs shot to death

PANOLA COUNTY, MS – Authorities in Panola County are appealing to the public for assistance in solving a distressing case involving the shooting deaths of three family dogs. The incidents, which took place over a span of a few days, have left the community in shock and mourning.

In a serene neighborhood known as Ranch 8 Acres in Panola County, two German Shorthaired Pointers, named June and Scarlett, were found dead from gunshot wounds. Austin Gantt, a local resident, expressed his dismay, noting that the dogs were beloved companions for nearly a decade. “It’s incredibly troubling,” he said, reflecting the sentiments of many dog owners and residents in the area.

The grisly discovery was made by a neighbor who stumbled upon the dogs’ lifeless bodies just a short distance from her driveway. Investigators believe the tragic event occurred around March 13. The tight-knit community of Ranch 8 Acres, known for its love of dogs, is grappling with the senseless loss.

The Panola County Sheriff’s Office is looking into whether the Ranch 8 Acres shootings are connected to a similar incident in neighboring Yalobusha County. On March 17, a Pointer mix was also found shot and killed. The proximity of the two crime scenes, a mere 25-minute drive apart, and the use of what appears to be the same weapon, suggest a possible link.

Sergeant Zach Adams, leading the investigation, is determined to uncover the identity of the perpetrator. “It’s crucial to get to the bottom of this,” he emphasized, highlighting the community’s concern for safety and justice.

There is speculation that the shootings might be the work of individuals who engage in reckless nighttime activities, targeting animals and possibly vehicles. The authorities urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the responsible party to justice.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Sergeant Zach Adams at the Panola County Sheriff’s Office. The community’s cooperation is vital in resolving this heartbreaking case and preventing further tragedies.
