Police go to wrong address and shoot homeowner

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – A man is recovering from a gunshot wound after police mistakenly arrived at his home and opened fire, a mishap that has sparked outrage and demands for accountability. The incident occurred early Friday morning in a neighborhood near Interstate 20 and Beltline Road.

Thomas Simpson, the homeowner, recounted the distressing encounter, saying he believed he was defending his property from intruders. Officers had been responding to a 911 call about a disturbance but ended up at the wrong address due to a dispatch error.

According to the police, they knocked on the door for several minutes before Simpson, alerted by his barking dogs, opened his garage door. Seeing two figures, he raised his firearm, fearing a threat. Officers, perceiving danger, fired and struck Simpson in the leg.

Simpson insists that the officers failed to identify themselves. “I wouldn’t have raised my gun if I knew they were police,” he said. He described the chaos that followed, as he was forced to the ground and his family, including his teenage children, were handcuffed.

The family is seeking answers and accountability, stating that the officers used excessive force and did not follow standard procedures. “They need to learn there are consequences to their actions,” Simpson said.

Adding to the controversy, police are pursuing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Simpson, referring the case to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.

As Simpson recuperates at home, he faces the challenge of moving to a new residence. Despite his injuries, he remains determined to hold the Grand Prairie Police accountable for their actions.

Simpson is hopeful that this incident will prompt a review of police procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. “There has to be something positive to come out of it,” he remarked.

The Grand Prairie Police Department has not yet responded to inquiries about whether officers identified themselves during the incident.
