FAIRVIEW, OR – Witnesses reported a horrifying scene as a twin-engine plane crashed into a residential area in Fairview, Oregon, on Saturday, with three individuals reported missing following the incident. Initial details from Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis indicate the two people who were aboard the plane and one resident from the crash site are unaccounted for.
The aircraft crashed in the vicinity of Troutdale Airport around 10:30 a.m. local time. It reportedly hit a power pole or tower, causing a brush fire before impacting a set of interconnected townhouses. The impact subsequently resulted in a fire that spread across four structures, according to a briefing by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
As a direct consequence of the crash, at least five families have been displaced, and another condominium is under evaluation. Two transmission lines from Portland General Electric remained down as of Saturday afternoon.
Incident debris is scattered over multiple sites, making it necessary for the Sheriff’s Office to secure the scene to aid in a comprehensive FAA investigation.
Images from the site reveal heavy smoke and a house engulfed in flames following the crash. The FAA will be carrying out an investigation alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) regarding the incident. The NTSB is currently presiding over case updates.
