Police said the man who died had an active protective order involving someone who lived at the east Fort Worth home.
FORT WORTH, TX — One man was killed and another was hospitalized after an argument at an east Fort Worth home escalated into an exchange of gunfire Saturday afternoon, police said.
Fort Worth police officers responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. Aug. 15 to the 6900 block of Misty Glen Court after receiving reports of a shooting. Investigators said a resident had returned home and found another man he knew on the property. A verbal dispute followed before both men fired weapons, according to police.
The man who was visiting the property was pronounced dead at the scene. The resident survived and was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Authorities did not immediately release a detailed medical condition for the surviving man.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that the man who died had an active protective order involving someone who lived at the home. Authorities had not publicly identified the person protected by the order or released additional details about its terms.
Fort Worth police Officer Buddy Calzada said investigators believe the encounter began as a verbal altercation before both men opened fire. Police have not announced criminal charges or said whether detectives had determined who fired first.
The identities of the two men had not been publicly released. Police also had not disclosed the precise relationship between them beyond saying the resident knew the man who was found at the property.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to determine the cause and manner of death and release the identity of the man who died. No additional deaths or injuries from the shooting had been reported.
Homicide detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the confrontation that preceded the gunfire and the protective order connected to the property.
As of Sunday, police had not announced an arrest or released additional findings about the shooting. The investigation remained active.
