One Dead, Teen Critical After Detroit Quadruple Shooting

Police are searching for multiple suspects after four people were shot late Saturday on the city’s west side.

DETROIT, MI — One person was killed and three others were wounded, including a 14-year-old who remained in critical condition, after a shooting late Saturday on Detroit’s west side, police said.

Detroit police received a report of gunfire shortly after 10:15 p.m. Oct. 10 in the 3900 block of Wabash Street, near Grand River Avenue. Officers arrived within minutes and found four people suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police accounts provided to local news organizations.

An adult victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not released the person’s name or age as of Sunday afternoon. Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said the person had a firearm and was wearing a tether, though authorities had not publicly explained how those details may relate to the shooting.

The 14-year-old was shot in the stomach and chest area and was listed in critical condition, police said. An 18-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the foot, while a 23-year-old was shot in the arm. Both of those victims were reported in stable condition.

Police found victims inside and outside a vehicle when officers reached the scene, according to authorities. Investigators had not released information identifying who fired the shots or what led to the shooting.

Police said they were searching for multiple suspects who reportedly fled the area on foot. One of the surviving victims told investigators that more than one shooter ran through a nearby field after the gunfire, according to Bettison.

No arrests had been announced by Sunday afternoon. Authorities also had not publicly identified the person who was killed or released further information about the relationship, if any, among the four people who were shot.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Detroit Police Department. Police had not announced a motive or provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding the gunfire as of the latest public reports.
