NEW YORK CITY, NY — New York City police are investigating the death of a 59-year-old woman who was found unconscious and unresponsive with head trauma inside a Brooklyn apartment Monday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded around 9:30 a.m. Monday to a home on 79th Street in the Bay Ridge neighborhood, according to police and multiple local reports. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name had not been publicly released Tuesday as authorities worked to notify her family.
The circumstances surrounding the death remained under investigation Tuesday. Some reports, citing law enforcement sources, described the death as suspicious, while the NYPD had not publicly confirmed criminality pending findings from the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
