Movie theater shooting leaves man dead in lobby

MASSILLON, OH – A movie theater shooting on Friday night resulted in the death of a resident from Canton. Daron Davis, aged 27, was shot at the Regal Massillon movie theater housed at 175 Cherry Road NW, according to reports from the local police.

After being called in after 11 p.m., police found the body of Davis near the theater’s front lobby. A suspect was apprehended outside the Massillon Police Department about half an hour later. The Police Chief, Jason Saintenoy, has yet to comment on the incident.

Daron Davis was pronounced dead at about 11:48 p.m. by an investigator from the Stark County coroner’s office. His body was found near an entrance to one of the cinema halls. It remains uncertain whether Davis or the apprehended suspect had been in the theater for a movie screening.

Following the incident, Davis’s mother showed up at the scene, although it is unclear whether she was present during the shooting.

Throughout the night, Massillon police and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation gathered evidence at the crime scene. Early Saturday morning, Davis’ body was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy, as stated by the Stark County Coroner’s office. Surveillance footage from the movie theater is under the investigation team’s review.

As a result of the shooting, all screenings scheduled for Saturday at the 175 Cherry Road NW location were called off. The location’s webpage on the Regal website announced the cancellation due to “unforeseen circumstances” while directing customers seeking refunds for advanced ticket purchases to an email.
