Mother used as human shield in mass shooting

BRONX, NY – A violent shooting left six people injured in the bustling Williamsbridge neighborhood of the Bronx on Wednesday evening. The incident unfolded when two assailants opened fire on a crowded street, targeting a group of individuals in front of a local convenience store. The gunfire struck six people, including a 40-year-old mother and her 12-year-old daughter, who were tragically caught in the crossfire.

According to police, the mother and daughter were used as human shields by the intended targets of the attack. The mother suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach, while her daughter was struck in the leg. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

The chaos erupted around 5 p.m. when officers from the 47th Precinct responded to numerous calls about shots fired on White Plains Road. Surveillance footage revealed two suspects crossing the street and firing at a group gathered outside the store. As the gunfire continued, some members of the group fled inside the store, seeking cover.

One of the intended targets reportedly grabbed the woman and used her as a protective barrier, leading to her injury. In addition to the mother and daughter, four males, aged 18 to 21, sustained gunshot wounds to their arms and legs.

Authorities are currently searching for the two suspects described as Black males, one wearing a black Nike tracksuit and the other in a gray hoodie, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but police are working diligently to identify the shooters and their intended targets.

This brazen act of violence has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing concern over the safety of their neighborhood. As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The timing of the attack, just days before New Year’s celebrations, has heightened anxiety in the area. Mayor Eric Adams has assured residents that security will be increased during the holiday period to prevent further incidents.

As detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift justice and a return to normalcy.
