A 23-year-old man faces drug and firearm charges after a multi-agency search of a home in Guyton, Georgia.
GUYTON, GA — Authorities seized more than 150 pounds of marijuana, over a dozen firearms, machine guns, suppressors and more than $18,000 in cash during a search of an Effingham County home, according to law enforcement officials.
The Aug. 31 search on Del A Rae Circle in Guyton was carried out by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Suppression Unit with assistance from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other federal agents. Authorities arrested Mikell Berry, 23, in connection with the investigation.
Berry faces charges that include trafficking, obstruction, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the sheriff’s office. The charges are allegations, and the available reports did not provide information about a plea or the status of any court proceedings.
Investigators said the search turned up more than a dozen guns. Authorities described some of the weapons as machine guns and said suppressors also were recovered. Officials have not publicly detailed how many of the seized firearms were machine guns or suppressors, or provided additional information about their ownership.
Along with the drugs, firearms and cash, deputies seized a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray from the property. Authorities did not release an estimated value for the marijuana, firearms or vehicle, and the publicly available accounts did not explain what investigators believe the seized money represented.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation involved assistance from several agencies. Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie thanked the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office and the Swainsboro Police Department for their help with the case, according to local reports. Authorities have not publicly described the specific role each assisting agency played in developing or carrying out the investigation.
Officials also have not released details about what led investigators to seek the Aug. 31 search warrant. The available reports do not identify the suspected source or intended destination of the marijuana, describe the length of the investigation or say whether authorities believe the case is connected to a larger drug distribution organization.
The seizure brought together drug and firearms investigators in a case involving a substantial amount of marijuana and weapons that authorities described as including machine guns. No additional defendants had been publicly identified in the reports reviewed for this article.
The investigation remains active. Authorities have said additional arrests are possible as investigators continue working the case, but no further arrests or new charges had been publicly announced in the sources reviewed as of Wednesday.
