Mom killed in devastating Thanksgiving car crash

LOS ANGELES, CA – A terrible crash in South Los Angeles has resulted in the death of a mother and left her 8-year-old daughter fighting for her life. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at 1758 W. 83rd St., a few blocks south of Florence Avenue and east of Western Avenue, reports the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Authorities claim the mother, identified as Alma Aragon, was walking southbound on the sidewalk on 82nd and Western with her young daughter when disaster struck. A speeding car heading southbound on the road crashed into another vehicle exiting a liquor store’s parking lot and supposedly undertaking a U-turn.

The force of the collision propelled one car on the sidewalk where it struck Aragon and her child. A male victim was also injured in the incident. All three were immediately transported to a regional trauma center by LAFD paramedics, where Aragon was later pronounced dead.

Considered critical, the condition of the child is not fully known at this time. However, reports indicate she is battling grave injuries.

The crash’s cause is currently under investigation. However, initial findings point to alcohol involvement with “at least one of the drivers.” Also, authorities confirmed that the driver who was speeding is unlicensed. Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
