LAS VEGAS, NV – A two-year-old child, reported missing on Thursday, was found lifeless in a dumpster, triggering the arrest of his mother, Las Vegas police officials reported. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department discovered the boy’s body in the dumpster located on the 1300 block of Lewis Avenue.
Homicide detectives subsequently identified Diaja Smith, 23, the boy’s mother, as a suspect in the case. Smith has since been arrested, facing charges related to murder, among other criminal activities. Her detention is currently at Clark County Detention Center.
Jacoby Robinson Jr., the deceased toddler, was featured in a police-issued flyer prior to the discovery. The flyer, distributed in the local community, stated the boy was last seen near Lewis Avenue and S. 15th Street on Thursday evening. Coincidentally, the location is proximate to Mayfair Place Park and the area where his body was discovered.
After searching near the mentioned vicinity, the police revealed that a body was found at the corner of Lewis and 15th Street, drawing homicide investigators to the scene.
Despite being able to examine the surveillance video from a convenience store close to the scene, the footage’s content remains undisclosed due to the manager’s absence during the investigators’ query. Smith is scheduled for her court appearance on Saturday, June 8.
