Police said the 24-year-old victim was hospitalized in stable condition after the Thursday night shooting in Williamsbridge.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — A 24-year-old man was shot six times outside a Bronx building Thursday night, leaving him hospitalized as police searched Friday for four men believed to have been involved in the attack.
Police responded about 9:30 p.m. Thursday to the area outside 1040 E. 219th St. in Williamsbridge, according to News 12. Officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.
The shooting followed an argument involving a group of men outside the East 219th Street address, according to video obtained by News 12. The footage showed several men arguing before the confrontation escalated. Police sources told the station that investigators believe four men were involved in the shooting.
Three of the men being sought were last seen dressed in black, while a fourth wore a white T-shirt, according to the report. Authorities had not released their names or more detailed descriptions as of Friday afternoon, and police had not announced any arrests.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds to several areas of his body, including his legs, shoulders and stomach, police said. He also suffered a graze wound to the neck. Despite the number of wounds, authorities said he was in stable condition at the hospital.
Video recorded before the gunfire captured the group in a heated exchange. At one point, several men appeared to restrain one person as another moved toward the group. The footage does not establish what started the dispute, and police had not publicly identified a motive for the shooting.
A nearby resident, identified by News 12 as Winsome, said the gunfire was distinct from fireworks and recalled hearing a rapid series of shots. Neighbors reported being close to the gunfire as the confrontation unfolded outside the building.
Police had not said whether the victim knew the people being sought or whether investigators had recovered a weapon or other evidence from the scene. Authorities also had not announced charges in connection with the shooting.
The investigation remained ongoing Friday as detectives worked to identify and locate the four suspected attackers. No arrests had been reported, and police had not released additional information about what led to the confrontation.
