Man shot by deputies after pointing gun at them while drinking

NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A tense encounter unfolded in the early hours of the morning in a quiet Harris County neighborhood, leaving a man hospitalized after an alleged confrontation with deputies. The situation began shortly before 2 a.m. on Basel Point Court, when a domestic disturbance escalated into gunfire.

According to authorities, the incident was triggered by a 911 call from the wife of the suspect, who reported that her husband was intoxicated and discharging a firearm outside their home. In response, two deputies from Precinct One were dispatched to the scene, arriving around 1:30 a.m.

Upon reaching the residence, the deputies were granted entry by the man’s wife, who directed them to search for her spouse. The suspect was eventually located on the back porch. As the deputies approached, the man allegedly pointed a gun at them, potentially firing a shot, although this detail remains under investigation.

In response to the perceived threat, both deputies discharged their weapons. The suspect fled, scaling a neighbor’s fence, but was found minutes later with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was promptly transported to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and expected to survive.

The suspect, identified as a 47-year-old man, is now facing charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer. Meanwhile, the area remains an active crime scene as investigators work to piece together the events that led to the shooting.

While no deputies were injured in the exchange, both have been placed on administrative leave, a routine procedure in such incidents. The man’s wife and their 21-year-old daughter, who were home at the time, were unharmed and are cooperating with the investigation.

Chief Harrison, addressing the media, emphasized the perils of mixing alcohol with firearms, particularly during holiday weekends, urging the public to celebrate responsibly.
