CHICAGO, IL – There was a fatal shooting in a Subway restaurant located on the South Side of Chicago late Thursday evening, according to local police. The details surrounding the incident, which occurred at about 11:40 p.m. inside the restaurant on West 79th Street, remain unclear at this time. Officers who arrived at the scene found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head inside the restaurant.
According to investigators, the victim was shot by an unidentified male suspect who fled from the Subway on foot after the shooting occurred.
An unidentified man who works in the area mentioned that this particular Subway had previously encountered problems. “I’m not surprised because the guy who works at Subway, he’s got beaten multiple times before,” the man said. “Any spot that works 24/7 in this area should be having a lot of troubles.”
One of the customers, Mona Davis, mentioned that she only felt secure visiting the restaurant in the morning. “In the morning, I’m always safe. I don’t fool around at night. At night, I’m in the houseā¦this is 79th Street.”
The Subway outlet was briefly reopened after the shooting but was later ordered to close on Friday morning by the police superintendent, who believes the business presents a risk to public safety.
